How our HOA Board works

The five volunteer members of the Silver Lake Home Owners Association (HOA) Board of Directors are elected at our regular, annual homeowners meeting, which is held in October or November. The members elect officers at the first board meeting following the annual association meeting.

Terms on the board are one year, though many members have served more than one term. If you'd like to serve, use the contact form to notify board members.

The duties for each officer are outlined below.

President

  • Presides at all HOA Board meetings
  • Make sure orders and resolutions are carried out
  • Signs contracts* and co-signs checks

Vice-President

  • Takes the place of the president when is absent
  • Performs other duties as required

Secretary

  • Keeps meeting minutes
  • Records votes
  • Signs contracts* on behalf of the association
  • Sends meeting notifications
  • Keeps member records current

Treasurer

  • Receives and deposits monies
  • Signs checks
  • Keeps the accounting books
  • Schedules an annual audit of the accounting books
  • Prepares the annual budget

In general, each board member is charged to:

  • Enforce the covenants
  • Establish sound fiscal policies and maintain accurate records
  • Develop a workable budget, keeping in mind the needs, requirements, and expectations of the community
  • Establish reserve funds
  • Act on budget items and determine assessment rates
  • Collect assessments
  • Establish, publicize, and enforce rules and penalties
  • Authorize legal action against owners who do not comply with the rules
  • Appoint committees and delegate authority to them
  • Provide adequate insurance coverage as required by the bylaws and local governmental agencies
  • Inform board members of all business items that require their vote
  • Inform members of important board decisions and transactions
  • See that the association is protected for the acts of all parties with fiscal responsibilities
  • Attend and participate at meetings

Serving as a board member is a valuable and rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help your neighbors and to protect and enhance  the assets of the entire community. We welcome volunteers. Contact us for more information.
